FAQs
The new church will be led by a team of male elders who will jointly pastor (shepherd) the new congregation of which they will also be members. Some elders, will be supported financially and freed from other “labour” so they can “labour in the word and doctrine” (1 Tim. 5:17-18). The specific roles of the elders are:
- Leading the church in its life and mission
- Praying with and for God’s people to discern and do the will of God for our congregation and the individuals within it (Act. 6:4 with Jas. 5.15).
- Preaching and teaching the gospel and the whole counsel of God from the Scriptures (1 Tim. 3:2, Tit. 1:9), and equipping and empowering others to live for Christ in all of life.
- Modelling Christ-like living for the church (1 Pet. 5:3)
The church plant will initially start with three elders: Paul Byun, Mike Yoon and Cameron Clausing. All three will jointly shepherd the church working in a plural leadership structure.
Within the team, Mike will take on the formal role of Moderator once the church, God willing, becomes particularised and set as recognised charge. Mike will continue taking primary responsibility for overseeing gathered worship, including preaching. He will be responsible for chairing Session and overseeing Sunday school and community groups.
Cameron and Paul will share in the preaching and teaching load with Mike. They will be part of Session and will be leading regular community groups in their homes.
The hope and prayer is that more elders may be identified, reviewed and appointed in the future by the growing congregation. Our prayer is that God will provide us with a gifted woman’s worker, a gifted evangelist, a gifted administrator, and other mature Christians who can lead another church plant from our church in future years.
Similarly, our plant intends to work with a team of deacons and other appropriate teams (yet to be formed). The elders will work together with the deacons who will manage the practical and material needs of those inside and outside the church (Acts 6:1-6, 1 Tim 3:8-13).
