Our Story

A Vision for Merrylands

Since 2023, members of Living Hope Presbyterian Church and the Presbytery of Western Sydney have been actively praying about planting a new church in Merrylands.

We are grateful for what God has been doing. He has been fostering a kingdom vision in our church community, not just for our local area, but for the ends of the earth.

As we continued praying and preparing, God began gathering a launch team committed to serving Him through this church plant. Since February 2026, our launch team has been meeting regularly to pray, plan, encourage one another, and dream together about what God might do through a new Presbyterian church in Merrylands. By May 2026, the team had grown to 16 committed adults serving together with joy and expectation.

Preparing the Building

One of the most encouraging milestones in this journey was hosting our Vision Day on 2 May 2026 at what will become Redeemer Presbyterian Church.

In the days leading up to the event, our leaders and several launch team members spent time cleaning, repairing, and preparing the church building. The site had been largely unused by a permanent church community since the conclusion of the previous Merrylands Presbyterian Church, and it was a meaningful experience to begin restoring the space for gospel ministry once again.

For many involved, it was encouraging to see a building that had once been quiet begin filling again with people, prayer, worship, and preparation for future ministry.

Vision Day | 2 May 2026

On Vision Day itself, we welcomed around 85 adults and children who gathered with us for worship, fellowship, and conversation about the future of the church plant. Together, we held a worship service that reflected the kind of liturgy and church life we hope to cultivate as a church community.
It was a beautiful picture of God’s provision and partnership. We sang together using borrowed instruments from members of our launch team, with volunteers from Living Hope Presbyterian Church, alongside donated equipment from other churches in our denomination and from our denomination’s Bible college.

During the service, we heard a testimony from one of our launch team members, a Bible reading from Rev. Cam Clausing, service leading from Rev. Paul Byun, and preaching from Rev. Mike Yoon. His sermon, Celebrating in the Redeemer, encouraged us to rejoice in the salvation, hope, and new life that Jesus Christ gives to His people.

After the service, we shared lunch together in the church hall, enjoying fellowship and conversation with those who attended. It was a wonderful opportunity to meet new people, reconnect with old friends, and hear how God has been working in different lives and families.

Conversations, Prayer, and Community

Following lunch, we hosted an open church session with discussion tables focused on four key areas of church life: Support Us, Praise & Worship, Worship & Service, and Vision & Communication. These conversations gave individuals, couples, and families the opportunity to ask questions, learn more about the church plant, and prayerfully consider whether God may be leading them to join this new church community.

More importantly, it was also a meaningful opportunity to pray for the Merrylands community itself.

Throughout the day, we were reminded that our desire is not simply to begin another church service, but to faithfully love, serve, and proclaim the hope of Christ to the people of Merrylands and the surrounding areas. We are excited for the opportunity to become part of this community and to see God at work in the lives of local families, workers, students, and neighbours.

Vision Day was also especially encouraging for many who had been hearing about and praying for this church plant for several years. For so long, people had faithfully prayed for a church in Merrylands without yet seeing the building, the people, or the growing launch team behind it. The day became a tangible answer to many of those prayers — an opportunity for supporters, friends, and visitors to walk through the building, worship alongside the launch team, and catch a glimpse of what God may continue building in this space and community for years to come.

Looking Ahead

As we look ahead, we are excited to see how God will continue building His church in Merrylands. Vision Day gave us a glimpse of what it could look like to see this building once again filled with worship, prayer, fellowship, and gospel witness.

It truly was a vision of what God can do in this space, in this community, and through His people.
